Spotlight on Gary Stroud

Gary Stroud, Ph.D.
Program Chair, Human Resources Management

As a Program Chair, Dr. Gary Stroud oversees the planning, delivery and strategic direction of the Human Resources Management Major at Franklin. He ensures that course content and outcomes stay current with business trends, maintaining a balance between theory and practical application.


Gary brings to Franklin extensive experience in the human resources field. He began his career as an Army Infantry officer, gaining valuable leadership experience traveling around the world. Gary also managed global human resources operations for the Johnson & Johnson Company, served as head of human resources for the Electric Reliability of Texas, and spent many years as the head of human resources for several prominent healthcare companies in Texas. With the assistance of his associates, Gary took a private company, Living Centers of America (now a part of Mariner Healthcare), to the public trading sector.

An accomplished business and human resources professional, Gary offers a breadth of knowledge that augments course curriculum, providing students with a relevant and well-rounded educational experience that is immediately applicable in the workplace.

Gary completed his Ph.D. in Organization and Management from Capella University, a Master of Business Administration from Claremont College, and earned his Master of Science in Human Resources and a Bachelor of Science in Social Science from Northwestern State University. He regularly pursues continuing education and professional development opportunities in support of lifelong learning.

Gary resides in Columbus, Ohio and enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. He stays active through regular exercise including running distance races and nationwide biking tours.
