Spotlight on William Hochstettler

As Program Chair for the Web Development Major, Dr. William Hochstettler oversees course development, staffing and strategic direction. He ensures that course content and outcomes stay current with industry trends, maintaining a balance between computer science, Web development and practical application.

Dr. Hochstettler brings to Franklin extensive experience in computer science and project management. He served in a variety of professional roles for prominent organizations including A.T.&T./Lucent Technologies Bell Laboratories, UES, Inc. and Battelle. He has developed proprietary PC-based healthcare software for private industry and produced traditional management information sciences applications for government use. During his doctoral work, he interned as a research assistant at Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), working on performance simulation and early interactive TV prototypes.

Dr. Hochstettler holds a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from The Ohio State University, a Master of Science in Computer Science from Penn State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Washington University in St. Louis.

After serving as an adjunct faculty member at Franklin for more than 12 years, Dr. Hochstettler accepted his full-time position in 2003. As an adjunct professor, he served on the Computer Science Advisory Board and participated in the planning committee for the Master of Science in Computer Science Program. As an accomplished computer science professional and instructor, Dr. Hochstettler uses real-world experience to enhance the Web Development curriculum, making him an invaluable asset to the Franklin community.
