Database identification and access made easier!
All databases are now available via the Franklin authentication system.
Under the "Articles and Databases" section of the library Web site, the "databases by name" and "databases by subject" pages no longer offer the "alternative link for access from off-campus", instead allowing all access through one central link. Just click on the name of the database and...
-
If onsite, your IP address will be recognized and you will be granted immediate access into the database.
-
If offsite, you will be prompted to authenticate with your name and library barcode. Authenticate once and search databases with no need to re-login for 2 hours and/or until you close your browser!
In this way you will access databases in a consistent manner from our streamlined web sites.
In addition, the following updates have been made to the database web sites:
-
ACS Publications, an Archive of pre-1996 journals from the American Chemical Society are now available! Locate it alphabetically in the database by name web site or under "chemistry" on the database by subject web site.
-
Two new categories have been added to the database by subject web site. Now "Communications" and "Global Studies" research can start right away by accessing the databases recommended in their subject guides.
The Franklin University Nationwide Library continuously works to serve you better - let us know how we're doing! Post your feedback here: https://olinkserver.franklin.edu/suggest~S0

ChatRef Service Ends December 21
OhioLINK's ChatRef service will cease operations after December 21, 2007. During five years of service, librarians from 40 libraries have taken turns providing online research assistance to students and faculty from OhioLINK member colleges and universities. More than 52,000 chat sessions were conducted since the service began in 2002. Changes in libraries and information technology, and declining use of ChatRef, have led us to re-examine this service. In the last several years, Instant Messaging (IM) has become a major communication tool on campuses. Many libraries have begun using IM to answer questions for their own communities. This way, students and faculty are served by librarians from their own institutions. Franklin University Nationwide Library is now exploring our own IM service for the university community. In the meantime the Library remains committed to offering the very best reference service to students, faculty and staff. For more information Ask a Librarian.
